What is TheSite.org on mobile?
TheSite.org on mobile is our brand new service available through your mobile phone. Just go to www.thesite.org on your mobile and you'll have access to over a hundred factsheets and our Local Advice Finder (providing you have network coverage where you are). This means that wherever you are in the UK you can access the advice and information you need, no matter what the problem.
What's on the TheSite.org on mobile?
Right now you can access factsheets and Local Advice Finder on your mobile. There are over a hundred factsheets about topics ranging from sex and sexual health to relationships, work, the law and drugs. Local Advice Finder is a database of thousands of local organisations, offering information and advice on a wide range of issues. All you have to do is type in your postcode or town and select a topic, and then the database will show you the services closest to you. There's lots of information provided about each service including a description, contact details, opening hours and public transport links.
Is there any other content available?
We're working on it. Eventually you'll be able to access all sorts of TheSite.org content on your mobile. If you've got a suggestion of something you'd like to see on TheSite.org on mobile please do feedback to us about it.
Why isn't the search finding me many organisations?
The search is automatically set to look within a 10km radius from the town or postcode you entered. If the search isn't finding many results you can widen the search (at the bottom of the last page of results) to look within a 25km radius. If this still doesn't return many results you can access nationwide organisations by clicking on the link (at the bottom of the last page of results) to view national organisations.
How do I access TheSite.org on mobile?
You can access TheSite.org on mobile by going to the browser on your mobile and typing in www.thesite.org. Generally, you can find the browser on your mobile by going to the main menu and clicking on the icon that looks like a world or going into the 'Web' section. To enter the web address you want to access it's likely that you will need to select the 'go to address' or 'enter address' option.
Each mobile is slightly different so if you're having problems finding the internet on your mobile or entering the address you can get help from the handset manufacturer's website, e.g. LG phones, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Sharp, Siemens, Sony Ericsson. Alternatively you can consult the manual for your mobile.
Will it work on my mobile?
If you have internet access on your mobile then (fingers crossed) you'll be able to access TheSite.org on mobile. We've built it so it works on as many mobiles as possible. If you're having problems with it on your mobile, please do feedback to us about it.
How do I get internet access on my mobile phone?
The majority of phones are capable of accessing the internet but if you don't seem to be able to get on the internet from your mobile you may not have the right settings applied. You can get the settings from your operator, either call customer services or go onto their website, most of them will have instructions on their site to help you internet enable your phone, e.g. O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange, Virgin Mobile, Tesco Mobile.
It doesn't look right - what can I do?
Mobiles themselves and mobile browsers sometimes change the look and feel of websites built to work on them. Sometimes this is out of our control and sometimes it isn't. How do I bookmark TheSite.org on my mobile?
You can create bookmarks on your mobile so you can save sites you want to find later. We do not charge for our mobile content. But it's important to remember that your operator's charges for using the internet on your mobile will apply. Some operators charge for time spent browsing whilst others charge for the amount of data downloaded. We've made every effort to ensure that our pages are as light on data as possible so your operator charges are minimised.
